Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella

Summer might be coming to a close, but the season for reading is all year round! So I'd like to start the month of September off with a charming story. Today's book review is about Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella!

What's The Story?

Audrey is on her break from school, trying to recover from a horrible bullying incident that left her with panic attacks. Because of the effect this incident had on her, she no longer feels the urge to venture outside her house or make eye contact with others. Her therapist encourages her to film a documentary, recording the interactions between her and her parents and older brother. Not only does the documentary give Audrey a way to express herself, but it also gives her a chance to talk to Linus, her friend's brother who believes that she can get better.

This story is a wonderful tale on so many levels! Sophie Kinsella takes the deep topic of social anxiety and puts a heartwarming twist on it. So let's dive right into the things that I enjoyed about Finding Audrey!

Let's see, we've got Audrey for starters. She was definitely a character that I could sympathize for and I felt sorry for what she had experienced. As a main character, she was fun to read about based on the way that she narrates the story.

But it doesn't just stop at Audrey, because her entire family is full of fun characters as well. That's another thing that I really appreciated about the book: The fact that it was written about that kind of family. What I mean by that is that depicts the kind of family that is often loud and crazy, but at the same time close and caring for one another. That's one of the best and most satisfying kind to read about!

Then there's Linus, who was also one of those characters that you find so sweet! He was so caring when it came to Audrey and really believed that she could get better and have a steadfast recover from her anxiety. Linus was just one of those characters that you wish you a had for a friend, to help you get through tough times whenever they come to pass.

And finally, I couldn't complete this section if I didn't say a few quick words about the writing style. I found the narrative both fun and playful, making for a great reading experience. We also have hints of dialogue that are written in the form of a script, showing you what she's filming as she makes the movie her therapist suggested to make.

Dislikes

Not much to say here this time around, but there was one thing I found. I was just hoping that it explored deeper into the bullying incident, completely revealing the details on what triggered her anxiety. Other than that, not that much to say here.

Is It Worth Reading?

This is definitely a fun and enjoyable read that I recommend! Kinsella took a very deep topic and used to make a story that was both touching and satisfying. Definitely a "yes" on this one!
